the dawn

At the dawn of every new era one spirit is split into two bodies. They possess the binary of being. The ying and yang as some have put it. These two bodies, when set next to each other, fir like pieces in a puzzle, equally consuming each other indefinitely. So it is true of our era as well. That out of the filth and plasticity of our age arises the two dichotomies of the self, baseness and virtue. These two, breathed life into every moment of every action, find themselves intertwined into the fates of men. That we would both walk as truly terrible beings, but simultaneously as truly excellent ones also. Full of hate and loathing, but overflowed with compassion and responsibility. So is the fate of every age, just as ours, to be quartered by the steeds of the binary. We leap from each moment to the next, finding ourselves writhing with selfishness and selflessness.

Yet this is the very thing that makes a man. To navigate the duality of existence. To find the virtue in baseness and the baseness in virtue.
