Save Atip’s Memorial, Fight for a San Diego Ghostbike
This evening a recent Portland transplant alerted me to something terrible happening this friday, 11/21, about 1200 miles away. In San Diego, the fight to keep a young man’s memorial is in full momentum. This is the only Ghostbike that I know of in my old home of Southern California and it is scheduled to be removed in three days. San Diego Street Division will be removing it despite great local protest from the cycling community and North Park Planning support..

According to everything I have read from the blogspot site dedicated to save the memorial, the battle is just coming to a climax. Saveatipsmemorial.blogspot.com is the center of this movement for online gathering. They provide the city contact info, background of the situation, and short impact of the young Atip on the local San Diego community.
It is sad to have to see it come to this. It is sad to see that in all of humanities technology, intelligence, growth, and experience, that in light of all these things a group of people must fight to keep a memorial to one young man.
I wish these people well, and I will do my part to support this effort. Atip sounds like he was a wonderful person and a sad loss. I have faith that his attitude, energy, and enthusiasms that others spoke of to not end with his last breath. Already he has become the icon of a cause, and I hope that the people around him not only fight to preserve the memorial on that street corner, but also the memorials in each of their hearts.
If you can, lend your support.
