Last night at Portland Bicycle Studio, Lazer helmets and Ridley bikes really brought the “bling” with some of their coolest gear I’ve seen. It was a fun night of fast bikes, flashy helmets, fun dudes, and foreign refreshments (effing , oh yea).  I was expecting a good time of meeting the reps from each company [...]

Do you like riding hot bikes in a super sexy helmet??
Passing this along to everybody. Chris from Lazer and Mark from Ridley will be at Portland Bicycle Studio on Monday, March 1st starting at 6pm. They are bringing some gear to check out, and if you bug them enough maybe they’ll [...]

These shoes are some top of the line mountain race shoes. However, they are pretty beat and worn…but still totally usable. The good part is that they are worn-in rather well and ride comfortably. Good starter shoes for someone who want’s to try clipless without spending $200 to try it out.

Ritchey 10sp Shimano compatible hub laced to Mavic tubular rim – $20
Solid hub, rim, and spokes. Been previously glued and ridden by wheel-maker. I never had a chance to mount tires or ride it.

Mavic beater front wheel – $5
Makes clicking noise and rim is pretty worn. Good “emergency” wheel

Don’t really want to part with this precious bike, but also need space and can’t have a bike no one rides using a hook in the garage. Bought this in California on a road trip a year ago. It’s a purple and white little bike, complete with rainbow highlights and chain-guard. It’s been ridden hard [...]

Another bike my girlfriend used, but just doesn’t ride anymore. We’re making room for our other bike. This is a small frame, probably 46-48cm, made for a 5′-5′5″ rider. It’s in pretty great condition and would be perfect for city commuting or bar-hopping.
Specs

Cr-Mo Steel frame
26″ Wheels
Installed fenders
Canti-lever brakes
3 x 6 drivetrain (18 speed)
Shimano SIS [...]

The previous sale posting for this bike (51cm Bianchi Pista For Sale) attracted some attention, but other things kept me from responding promptly. I also decided to take a slightly less snarky approach to selling it.
This Bianchi Pista has been around the block, but it’s nowhere near the end of it’s life. It has seen [...]

I’ve been writing copy and working on websites for almost two days straight now, so I’m going to keep this short.
TreesByBike is my baby, my love, my life long dream. Okay, not life long, maybe year long. It’s a project I’ve been working at and I don’t even have the energy left to talk [...]

You are now setting your eyes upon the glorious World Champions of the “Lap-dog” category of the DDXCWC09 (Doggie Day Cyclocross World Champions 2009). Be afraid, be very afraid.
In the midst of this weekend’s Kruger’s Crossing cyclocross race, was this special doggie event. Although many dog’s entered, only few walked away with the golden collar [...]

Who want’s to spend $975 on me?!
I’ve been shopping around for some parts to build a touring bike for 2010, and just yesterday I spotted this Surly Long Haul Trucker. The LHTs are decent steel-built touring bikes with a bunch of great features (like the extra spokes mounted in the chainstays). At first, I thought [...]

Prompting a delightful feature from AllHailTheBlackMarket.com, Abe’s costume for SSCXWC was a mix between 60’s bikers and a leggy albino woman (Photo to the left was modified so viewers could look directly at his legs). It was truly magnificent to see, truly. Although, Abe isn’t the feature of my post…Allhailtheblackmarket, however, is.
Stevil Kinevil, a “fresca” [...]

<- I have this right arm, but I NEED A LEFT ARM!
(The left arm looks the same but w/o the chainring spider)
I recently found this really great DuraAce right crank arm at a local shop. It would go perfectly on my upcoming commuter bike build. The only challenge is that I need a somewhat matching [...]

Sunday’s Cross Crusade race was super duper awesome-o!It was also Christina’s first cyclocross race ever (picture to the right after the race). A rad time was had by all. I could barely ride after the past two weeks of on-and-off sickness. I thought I placed horribly, but actually did the same as two weeks ago. [...]

$300 on Craigslist, $275 if you mention seeing it here!
Would you really settle for some guy’s “$2000 custom build” or an uninspired mail-order bike, when you could own a piece of PDX fixed gear history and BikeSnobNYC mockery?! That’s right ladies and gents, what I have here is a very special tarck bike just waiting [...]

I’m ALL OVER this video. Mainly because I was there early in the morning for my race.
I get the honor of being introduced with “fat guys” on my local news hooray. However, I did get my other good quote there in the end and some nice footage of me walking uphill (when I [...]

Have you ever woke up at 6:45am on a Sunday, rolled out of bed giggling like a schoolgirl, so excited for the day ahead that you almsot pee your boxer briefs?
I have. And I’ll do it for at least 5 more Sundays this season.
Cyclocros is an incredible sport, and Oregon’s Cross Crusade is possibly one [...]

I work on bikes a lot. My bike, Christina’s bike, friends’ bikes, friends’ girlfriends’ bikes, lots and lots of bikes. I can do some basic to intermediate work, however I’ve never actually built up a wheel.
I was always told wheel building was easy to start on, but I just never did it. I never had [...]

As many of my friends know, I have been on the “injured list” for the past two weeks. My right leg was having issues in the knee and shin/calf area. I was told to stop training and not participate in any race events until I had further MRI scan and results. It was upsetting and [...]

For the past 2 years ( or couple decades for the dude’s who mess’ed in the 90s) there has been a dark shadow looming over “bike culture” around the globe. This shadow’s grim outlook and general proctological discomfort fuels his grueling critique of the hippest of hip alternative bike stuffs; a battle against the forces [...]

Fizik Arione Black/Grey K:ium Rail
Awesome saddle that has served me well. Really just need a new one. Looks like it could be repaired, but I have no experience doing this. Other than fabric issues, it works just fine. All imperfections shown in photos.

San Marco Regal Black
Really great “classic style” saddle. Missing a single rivet, although [...]

These are not my bicycles, however the bikes and equipment of some really cool dudes who put on a great alleycat, Rose City Fix, this weekend in Portland (Check out the Results). After slaving over the planning and staffing on this alleycat with incredible prizing, the guys had their Uhaul broken into and robbed. Hopefully [...]

I’m sick and tired of all these effing fixie kids. “We wanna ride bikes, save the planet, and get laid!” Boo-hoo, you little hipper hippies. Who told you kids you could have your own fashion and style?! Not to mention your lack of brakes….
Which is why we’re here today everyone. Apparently some millitant bike activist [...]

That’s right, this saturday.
I’ll post some photos of items I’m selling on my twitter and facebook.
If you want to sell some stuff with us, let me know.

Hey dudes, I’ve got something to show you.
It’s hot, sexy, costs about $30, and it goes on your chest. Yea, dude, you know you want it. Mmmmm.
WHAT?! No, it’s a T-shirt you dirty jerks. It’s a T-shirt that will change your life. Forever. And ever.
Many, many moons ago when the world wasn’t plagued with economic [...]

Wait wait wait. Before I type another word, I should really clarify something overlooked in this whole Portland-internet flame war about the recent WebTrends shennanigans. (also see this Webtrends page)
Every single internet troll involved in this is obviously a serious amateur…bantering on and on about how all the cyclists aren’t doing their part and need [...]

I recently picked up a Lazer Genesis under the recommendation of Molly at Veloshop. It’s a rad helmet. A lot of people think bicycle helmets are too bulky or don’t fit well, but that’s really a price-point issue. This helmet fits like a hair-net and breathes really well.
Then again at $150 pricetage it better fit [...]

What?
Yea, buying personally vs buying local vs buying locally.  What I mean is the difference between buying things from a small shop locally, buying things from a big shop locally, and buying things from a nationwide internet company locally. It’s a big deal in Portland, especially for the cycling world around which this debate is [...]

After a  couple of weeks, a stop in East LA while in Southern California, and some palm greasing I finally got the HplusSons (H+Sons) rims on my hubs and rolling. Tzusing at HplusSons was good to deal with, even when trying to battle the shipping error that the delivery company made. Doug was especially helpful [...]

Dunno much about folding fixed gear bikes. But here’s some photos.
Odd little bikes.

When I checked my email this morning, something wonderful happened. The USPS package tracker informed me that my package from China was “delivered”. Shortly after the front desk at my office called me, “Max, your package is here.” I was so giddy. I felt like a young woman right before Senior Prom.
I walked across the [...]
