Portable Life - Commercial

Piece(s):

Notes:
A little something I put together for my messenger bag making. I actually just got the idea from the photos Jon shot of me earlier today. It’s bits and pieces from video I had taken months ago, photos of me by Jon, and photos I shot of the new bag today.

Thanks to: JonnyPockets (photos) and MSTRKRFT (Bloc Party Remix Beats)

Holla.

Notes:
This “Casper” bag is the product of some hard research and a bit of practicing making other bags. Although this bag is truly featureless (no pcokets or anything like that), it is a real sign of progress and hope for me.

“Casper” is a turning point in my bag design and production. Even if I did break my sewing machine finishing it. (Not to self: get machine fixed.)

Thing that make this bag special:

  • Recycled Military Rubber-ish liner (with printed description of what it held previously)
  • Metallic silver padded shoulder (material from an old food delivery bag)
  • Main strap buckle (for quick release)
  • Sternum strap (for stabilizing)
  • Overstrap on should pad (for clipping phone, bottle, walkies, etc.)

Things to take into consideration for “Casper’s” soon-to-be born brother:

  • Pocketing
  • Strap attachment at begging of main stitching
  • Velcro attachment before main stitching
  • Trimming during main stitching
  • Designed dimensions

Until then I am a super happy camper.

Krister - A Bag with Flavor

Notes:
This is a basic bag that I put together in about an hour last week. Althouh the design is simplistic, the fabrics are flavorful and quite nice. The exterior is a common cotton stripe (off-white/forrest), and the liner is a super-sturdy soft wool (grey). As I said, this is a simple construction bag really used so that I could breakdown the framework itself. I needed to insure my roots before progressing to more complicated bags. As from where it derives it’s name, this bag too can hold a lot of junk in what would be its trunk.

The bag has a few interesting features:

  • Shorter flap (I derivated from the design I has been using)
  • Not water or weather proof, but VERY lightweight
  • Taller design perfect for books and knick-knacks
  • Designed much more for a female wearer

This was a definitive success. I am very happy with it.

Argyle - A bag for Jody

Notes:
This bag is not yet completed. I didn’t have the correct web strapping handy, so it will have to wait until tomorrow. The features on this bag definatley surpass any of my previous creations. And although some of the bag I am not happy with, it is a step onto a whole new realm. More to come when I am completed with it.

Llama Bag - A Gift for Jon

Piece(s):
01.jpg02.jpg03.jpg04.jpg05.jpg08.jpg09.jpg06.jpg07.jpg

Notes:
This bag was a lot of fun to create. It was a gift for JonnyPockets on his birthday, Jan 29th. I actually was working on a wholly different messenger bag for him, but after its tremendous failure (having to deal with binding two types of fabric for a shell and liner), I had to move onto this smaller cloth incarnation. I salvaged the llama, which turned out really well, cut from white vinyl. As you can see, the bag is loaded with features including a buckle flap, buckled shoulder strap, and should slide adjuster. I am so rad.

Also check out my awesome sig XXI.

Excess Baggage - Project - Part 3

Bag Beta….SUCCESS!
This bag was a huge step for me. But first, things first. Photo dump….then see detail below.

As I said, the production of this big was a big step for me. I did it in about the same time as the first bag, but with planning and being less rusty on my machine, I made a superior product.

As you can see I added the following features:

  • Padded shoulder strap (words were a nice touch too)
  • Shorter top-flap
  • Inside pocket (has proved very useful)
  • Sternum strap (for stabilizing when riding)
  • Much taller

With all of these additions and a big growth in the pattern, I feel I am on the road to building the best bag. The bag rides pretty well, but the strap could use improvement in placement. As you will also notice, there were two beers missing from the six-pack in my demonstration, so I’m off to rest now and think more about the pattern.

Goals for the next bag version:

  • Better top-flap
  • More pockets and/or large pocket on outside, under top-flap
  • Fabric trim to take off the sharp edges
  • Better strap placement

That’s about all for now. Tune in later.

Scion Commercial - xB Design

Piece(s):

Notes:
This is something I put together a few weeks ago for Scion/Toyota. I utilized a 2008 xB body and a design I developed based on some photos I took previously of Allison Harvey. The design is drawn and colored by me on the wall. There were guides I set to be sure the piece was proportional, but it is NOT a green-screen or special effect. The video is set at about 10,000% the original speed. Enjoy.

“The Professional Man” - Band Photos, reapplied

Comments:
Just some things I made this evening. I have said it before and I will reiterate it, Sharpies are my love. If I was caught in a time warp and sent back in time to redo the world’s greatest art works, I would have only ask to have a chisel tip, fine tip, and super fine tip. Preferably black and red. Possibly metalic silver.

Who Needs Saturdays?

Me, cause they’re full of awesome shit. For instance, this last Saturday.

Let’s start with the essential materials:
Smokes, Amelia, a Pile of Boxes, and one very nice Razor Blade.
CigarettesAmeliaPile of Boxesrazor blades

Most people think you need to go to bars or clubs… but leave it to the master and I won’t steer you wrong. So, Amelia and I eat some grub and hang for a bit. (FYI: Instant Miso and Udon is great)

I get to thinking that this here pile of cardboard boxes aren’t going to do much but take up space unless I do something effing cool with em. So I get to cutting…

And, voila, instant cool.

Box Chest + Arms + Arms
= robot

FULL BOX-ROBOT AWESOME!

Then come the Philip K. Dick inspired pieces….
aka the Hipster Androids..

“Do android hipsters dream of electric designer jeans?”

And that was about it. I think Amelia was scared, or intensely attracted, and had to leave immediatley after I showed off my skills. I went to bed. It was a good day.

UPDATE: Since yesterday, I tried devising my halloween costume, not yet to be announced, out of cardboard mail. Similar to “wiki(chainmail)” however exclusively made with masking tape and cardboard squares. I ran into a few snags and have had to adjust my reasoning. It will be an excellent costume and I cannot let this second step into the cardboard costume foul me up.
