Rent Us Your House!

2347814676_05073bedff_o Two awesome dudes looking for a place to lay their heads….and do some gardening.

That’s right, Dan and I are looking at houses in the Portland Metro area. We’ve come across one beauty just south of Powell, but are still unsure if it will pan out.

So if you have a hosue for rent, know of a place, or just have some good advice…please let us know.

We’re clean, respectful dudes just looking for a place to park our bikes and lay our heads at night.

ARTIC BLAST 2008

Link:  http://maxisnow.com/photos/snow/

This most recent storm though Portland is weather I’ve never seen. When it’s not snowing, it’s sleeting or raining freezing water. Yea, freezing rain. The stuff that sticks on impact.

It’s been pretty crazy and we have to stay indoors a lot….however we got out for a bit.

Enjoy.

Wordpress 2.7 - YES!

picture-1 The answer to all of the world’s problems was released last Friday, 12/12/2008.

Okay, okay, maybe not ALL the world’s problems….but definitely a lot of problems I encounter on a daily basis. As a Wordpress Expert (I recently dubbed myself this after clocking my third year developing on WP sites), I run into the occasional issues. Most of them are from clients or coworkers who want Wordpress to be more than it is; requests I shrug off to the fact that it’s an open-source piece of “almost perfect” software. However there are some problems I run into myself when I am blogging, just usability or other small issues. It gets frustrating on occasion, and I think “Why doesn’t Wordpress do this?” Well….most of that has been answered.

Having changed not just some incredible functionality in the admin, the Wordpress team has upped the ante making it easier than ever to manage your blog. They’ve put “Quickpress” on the dashboard for on-the-fly dashboard blogging with minimal categorization and tagging, they have an all new web3.0 interface setup, and have basically utilized AJAX to make everything an effing breeze.

It’s brilliant. It’s wonderful. It’s easier than ever to use.

However, in my opinion the #1 upgrade in Wordpress 2.7 isn’t the awesome media uploading tool upgrades, nor the AJAX enabled widget-like window management, nor the awesome layout redesign.

By far, the #1 Wordpress 2.7 upgrade is the Dashboard Plug-in search and install feature. Yea folks….no more searching the web for a plugin, downloading it, uploading it, and installing. You can search the plugin repository from your Dashboard, choose, install. Fast, easy, and really fucking cool.

Check out the new Wordpress 2.7 upgrades….asap.

Enjoy.

Christmas Gifts of Real Giving - Tom’s Shoes

untitled-1 Christmas has this tendency to be rather self-absorbed. Not necessarily each of us within ourselves, but the country as a whole being self-absorbed. We think about spreading joy and sharing love, but normally that notion ends at our doorstep or our neighborhood, or maybe even as far as the city limits. It’s sweet, really, that we care so much to show people in gifts. But the problem is that most of us our spreading our joy to the already fortunate. I know I am.

That’s where TOMS comes in. You can accomplish the rituals and desires of sharing gifts with your loved ones, but also share love with children around the world. For every pair of shoes you buy from TOMS, they put a new pair on a child who needs them.

Is this selfless giving? No.
Is it the most sacrifice we can make with our wallets this season? Surely not.
Is it something that is going to make a lot of kids lives easier and happier? More than likely.

So remember to spread the love, buy someone you care about some TOMS this holiday and show that your affection is not just one another person, but about other peoples everywhere.

The Tyler Ramsey (feature on my homepage) and Gabe Lacktman editions are quite dashing.

P.S. Sorry lovers, I already have a pair, but buy a pair for someone else in your life.

Nikon D70 - A gift for myself

nikon-d70s It’s Christmas time. And while the children around America will be unsatifed with their presents which cost more than the yearly diet of most kids worldwide, I will be waking to my newest present to myself. Yes, I bought myself a used Nikon D70. And boy, I’m more excited than a 12 year-old boy in Titty-town.

For it’s original MSRP of $999 it was already a sweet deal, but at the price I got it, this camera was a double-chocolate, super-sized steal of a deal. The original owner put barely any wear on it and the camera shoots as good as the day it was born.

I still need to put some heavy use on it and push the limits to see where I can go. But, to be honest, anything is an upgrade from the old Cybershot that recently died on me.

Check out the test shots - Not altered in any programs these are straight from the cam.

IT’S SNOW….BITCHES!

It’s snow!!! I was the biggest skeptic. I swore up and down that the snow wouldn’t stick today. I woke up around 7:30am this morning to drain some fluid. Nothing on the ground. I was totally right. Went back to sleep until 9:30am. Woke up, looked outside…and well….Fuck, I was wrong.

It’s beautiful outside. Icey and snowy and dangerous and beautiful.

Be careful on your bikes kids, I ate shit already today and whip-lashed myself.

If you don’t remember how bad Portlanders are in the snow…here’s your reminder - link

It’s been a hell of a week. I’m fighting off a bitch of a cold and falling behind with work. Ah, I’ll just give it time. It’s getting damn cold here. More inside time.

If you’re looking for some blog fixed I recommend Christina’s blog or Abe’s blog. Both good to read.

Enjoy the weekend. Update you soon.

oh, and photos from last weekend are up (Cannon Beach Vacation). I won’t soil it with words.

Christmas Tree Pedaling

Yea yea, every body knows I love riding my bike everywhere. Old news…. So what? I still love blogging about it.

So I picked up a 5′er at the L’Arche Nehalem Fundraiser tree lot the other day. It’s a beautiful little tree that is supporting a beautiful cause. I suggest you buy a tree at this lot. It supports a great cause for developmentally disabled adults, is full of locally grown trees, and they even have a east European clone breed that will stay green on into Easter if you so desire. To top it off, they are the most modestly priced trees I’ve seen around town. Our almost 5′er was about $13.

Strapping this tree to my back was a lot easier than I expected. Thanks, once again to Elias from Lemolo Bags. I forget how wonderfully versatile this bag is until I strap something the size of a Christmas tree to my back.

Well, Dan and I got the tree back to the house and set it up. I told everyone about the tradition of hanging random house items as ornaments rather than hanging pricey glass globes. Everyone pitched in and the tree is on it’s way. With a sweet little pink flamingo as an angel, who can’t see the beauty of this green wonder. Also, just so you know, anyone who comes by the house before Christmas gets to add their own ornament. So come visit, and do you ornament on our tree.

P.S. If I hear any bologna about how live Christmas trees are a waste, please read further about proper Christmas tree farming. The kind done in Oregon. Also, read about the amount of natural resources used to create plastic trees.

Cheers!
